FOLLOW-UP ON THE CHANGE IN GARBAGE COLLECTION SCHEDULE

Notice that Solid Waste Authority has awarded the collection franchise for our area to a new trash collection company, Sunburst Sanitation, and our collection days are going to change beginning October 1, 2003, has generated a number of angry and frustrated e-mails and phone calls to Board Members, our Property Manager and our Webmaster.

The Master Board realizes that many of you are not happy with the new collection days. Both Bill Dowd, Board President, and Tony Serratore, Property Manager contacted Solid Waste Authority to try to have our days remain as they were in the present collection schedule with Waste Management. We were told that in order to accommodate the large increase in population here in Palm Beach County, many residents will have their collection days changed. SWA is aware of the difficulty that this will pose to some however, at this time, there’s not anything that they can do to change the situation.

NEW GARBAGE COLLECTION SCHEDULE

Sunburst Sanitation has been awarded the collection franchise for our area effective October 1, 2003. The new days for collection will be:

GARBAGEWEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY

RECYCLING: SATURDAY

YARD TRASH: SATURDAY

SOLID WASTE MUST BE AT THE CURB BY 6:00 AM ON THE DAY OF COLLECTION

SERVICE GUIDELINES - BULK ITEMS

According to customer service at the Solid Waste Authority (the rule making authority) and at Sunburst Sanitation (the company who actually collects our refuse), those residents that have bulk items to be picked up (furniture, appliances, etc.) should place them at curbside on either Wednesday or Saturday (our regularly scheduled pickup days) and they will be disposed of by Sunburst. In the event that the items can not fit into the regular truck, a special clamshell truck will be summoned and the items should be picked up by the end the day or on the following day.

You can call 697 2700 if the items are not picked up, however, they can not make individual appointments and it is likely that you will have to put the uncollected items out again on the next regular pickup day.

If you have items that are in working condition or furniture that's re-usable, you might want to consider calling a local charitable organization. Most will schedule pickups and will collect them from inside your home or garage.
